Description

I'm always looking for attractive ways to enclose beads and stones. It is a bonus when I can learn about new tools and ways to use them in the process!

In the Cretan Braid Bezel tutorial, I'll lead you through the basics of how to create this lovely woven bezel. Included are the instructions for two Versions: I'll show you how to adapt it for two different stone shapes, two different methods for finishing the work, and two different bail treatments.

The weave in this project is an advanced variation of Cretan stitch, which is a continuous row of separate, expanded figure eights. I call it “Cretan Braid”, because the wires intertwine to form a braid-like pattern in the center of the weave. One of the great properties of this weave is that it is made with one continuous wire. That means less wire ends and less clutter in finishing.

The Cretan Braid Bezel tutorial will be delivered in PDF form. It includes 79 clear, full color photos, as well as highly detailed instruction and diagrams. The base of this project is made on a jig, because it offers a way to make the weave very uniform. At the end of the tutorial, there are tips for more variations, and a full Appendix on the difference in jigs and how to adapt patterns between them.
