Violet Sheen - Glass Focal Art Bead Set - SRA

Description

The leaves on this ivory bead were made with a glass that is considered a "striking" glass. The glass is a transparent amber in rod form and when super heated, cooled and then gently reheated in the flame, produces a rainbow of colors. The technique is anything but easy and can take over an hour to produce the colors you see. Sometimes the heating and cooling cycles have to be repeated numerous times. The leaves also have a slight violet sheen from the strike of the glass. The two spacer beads were made with the same striking glass but struck much darker, they also have a slight violet sheen in sunlight. The focal bead measures approx. 21mm x 42mm (.82" x 1.65") it was wound on a 1/8" mandrel. The two spacers measure approximately 8mm x 12.5mm (.31" x .49").

Each of my beads is made by me, one by one, in my home studio. Most of my beads are made of designer glass that is handcrafted by artisan glass makers and usually produced in small quantities in unique color sets. I also use many of the well known Italian glass types that have been around for years.

The actual colors of the beads may vary somewhat from what you see on your computer due to different settings on cameras and monitors. Hopefully my description of the bead(s) will help with that! The beads are annealed in a digitally controlled kiln for strength and durability.
