This luxury Sencha green tea is from the Hunan Province which produces excellent Japanese-style green teas. Early in the new season the tea is bright emerald green and has the best flavor noted by a spring fresh character with pungency and body. In Hunan the tea starts growing mid-March; between then and the end of April the quality is very good. If you want to enjoy the green tea experience, this fresh, smooth tea is a great one to try. The cherry flavoring and subtle rose hints give the tea a wonderful exotic character.

This tea is named for the Cherry Blossom Festival that celebrates annually the blooming of the spectacular Cherry trees that line the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC that were a gift from Japan early in the 20th Century.

Green Tea comes from the Camellia Senensis plant but is not fermented. Its light character marries beautifully with fruit and floral flavorings. The brew is lighter and milder than black tea and does contain some caffeine. Two oz. of Green Tea yields 20-24 teaspoons or enough tea to make approximately 2-24 cups of tea, using 1 level teaspoon of loose tea for each 5 oz. cup. A cup is not a mug - a mug equals about 2 cups.

Bring water to just short of boiling and pour over leaves. Brew for 3 minutes. Be careful not to over-brew as Green Tea can turn bitter very quickly. No addition of milk is recommended, but a bit of sugar with enhance the flavor.
