I scanned these from a mid-century children's booklet that I found (after researching the copyright). The book was falling apart, but the sweet story of an elf and his adventures, as well as the images, were still bright and crisp.

A:: I refuse to use an image unless I am 100% confident that it is in the public domain in the U.S. or I personally own the copyright. I write letters to publishing houses and authors (all of which I have on file), pour through old copyright renewal notices, have a lawyer with whom I consult on a regular basis, and create my own original designs.
