Idaho Hera buckmoth

Description

After a 4 month separation from my printmaking tools, I am celebrating the reunion with a 4 x 4 series: four wildlife studies (bird, reptile, insect, plant) for four states I've lived in (Idaho, Alabama, Kansas, Texas). I began with the most recent locale, Idaho, where I banded migratory songbirds on Lucky Peak for 2.5 months.

The Hera buckmoth is native to the western half of the United States. I have never seen one living, but only found this beautiful dead specimen on the floor of the forest.

This original hand-pulled print is 3" x 3", on 4" x 5" Japanese kozo-shi paper. Each piece is signed and dated by the artist.
