Franz the Little Wooden Man

Description

This little wooden man is called Franz. He is based on an odd but endearingly proportioned German cloth doll from the early 19th century. He is a man of great dignity and charm.

Franz is hand painted onto plywood using acrylic paint and coloured pencil. He has been hand cut and sandpapered and stands at about 13 1/4 inches (34 cm) high. He has his own stand made of plywood, but there is also a little hanging device on his back so that he can be placed up on the wall like a picture. Franz would be very content living on the corner of a sideboard, table, bookshelf or in a child’s room.

Franz is the first of a series of variations on a theme. I am so fond of his odd proportions that I want to keep working with them. Perhaps we will get to meet his brothers soon?
