No one would believe her. No one, she was sure of it. Bianca stifled a tiny squeak behind one pink paw and stared with wide dark eyes into the space where the unbelievable had happened just moments before.
No one would believe it, she hardly believed it herself and she'd JUST seen it. Hadn't she?
Bianca eased forward, away from the shadowy safety of the books and closer to the edge of shelf. A flying mouse?
She shook her head, ears twitching, tail whipping briskly side to side as if to say 'no'. But she had, just moments before, after awakening from a lovely little mid afternoon slumber on the shelf with the romance novels, she'd looked out into the prettily decorated room and seen the impossible.
The giants hauling the tree into their house, taking the outside in, that was almost crazy. But the flying mouse, feathery wings fluttering in the air, white body almost glittering as the lights on the tree flared to life as if at the flying mouse's command...IMPOSSIBLE!
Bianca squeaked and tapped her foot against the wood of the shelf. Mice didn't fly.
She peered down over the side to the carpeted floor below....so very far below and shivered. No, siree, mice did not, instead they climbed, scampered, scurried and squeezed, topped with the occasional squeak...but mice didn't fly.
Bianca sat back watching the now quiet scene before her. The giants had come and gone from the room, exclaiming in loud booming voices about the lights mysteriously turning on and a missing bell from their tree. Well she had nothing to do with that, she'd been asleep all afternoon, tucked under the open book that made a convenient little papery tent for a tired mouse.
The scents of Christmas dinner cooking had lulled her to sleep, she'd drifted off right between the 'quickening pulse' and the 'unleashed desires' on pages 46 and 47 of her book tent.
Bianca squeaked again and scanned the room with sharp eyes, the impossible flying mouse with feathery wings was no where to be seen. Too bad, she'd rather looked forward to seeing it again.
Bianca had a plan, if she did see that impossible mouse again she planned to demand how she herself could get a set of wings like that.
She swiveled her head and did her best to peer down over her shoulder at her back...just in case... Just in case all this strange outdoor-in stuff the giants were up to had caused a wing growing reaction in little white mice such as herself.
Nothing but pearly fur, not even so much as a hint of wing.
Harrumph. Ah well, what would she do with wings anyways.
Bianca flipped her tail and turned her back on the cozy room with flickering fireplace and dazzling Christmas tree.
She crawled under the open book, deciding if she was seeing impossible things then perhaps she ought to sleep some more.
She snuggled down against "thundering hearts', long pink tail trailing along the words 'magical moment'.
In moments her whisper soft snores filled the romance novel tent. Bianca slipped easily back into dreams, where magical flying mice and Christmas trees danced in happy abandon next to a lusty pirate and his beloved wench.
