VINTAGE GERMAN Glass Beads Aurora Borealis Purple 10mm pkg4 1950 GL-296

Description

West German vintage glass beads that have an AB iridescent or aurora borealis finish on them.
They are handmade and I've been told that the process to make these beads is extraordinary and very time consuming. After each bead was made, the AB coating was sprinkled on each side separately ,fired and then fired again! These beads do show a little wear as they are quite old but when strung up it is hardly noticeable.

Aurora borealis means northern lights and this coating technique began in 1955.

These beads are just spectacular and I'm afraid the photographs don't even do them justice!

They are a purple/turquoise/green iridescent glass bead - unusual also in that they are flat circular beads that have a gentle 'twist' or curve to them which I have tried to show in the photographs.
