Flying Carpet Tray - Handmade Ceramic Tile

Here's a new line of functional pieces that I was inspired to make after playing with some of my handmade stamps. They remind me of Flying Carpets. Use this tray to hold snacks or appetizers......anything you'd like to display on a fancy flying carpet!

This decorative tray started it's life as a thin slab of porcelain clay, which I stamped with one of my handmade tile stamps - "Dogwood Fowers" - which makes up the central part of the design. I embellished it with a border and "fringe" with 2 more of my own stamps. I then laid it over a slump mould I made, and added 2 small coiled and stamped feet to the bottom. It measures about 4" wide X 6 3/4" long, and about 1" high at the ends. I've glazed the center flower section in a peach satin matte, the border in a mottled azure blue, and the "fringe" ends in mottled blue/black. The glazes are mid-range stoneware, food and dishwasher safe.

I'm beginning to explore the use of my handmade stamps and tile moulds to create these tile-inspired trays. Watch for more one-of-a-kind pieces coming soon!
