THE CHILD IN PENDLETON CRADLEBOARD

I like "special" ornaments for my tree. This new born is all wrapped in a very special Pendleton blanket and tied into a cradle board measuring 3 1/2" in length. A pewter button with a Southwest design accents the front of the blanket. The hair is rabbit fur and resembles the hair of both of my children at birth. Being of Cherokee heritage, the black thick hair was everyway! A new company in the new country, America set up shop producing blankets of wool with designs from Native American artforms. The town was Pendleton, Oregon and it is not uncommon for new born Native American children to be gifted their own blanket at birth. Even though the Pendleton company did not see fit to compensate the Native people for utilizing their designs used in blankets that sell for well over $100 each, it remains a sacred possession. Already to hang on your Christmas tree or keep as a reminder that we must all take care of THE CHILD WITHIN.
