Yunomi, Pattern in Lime

A warm, satin lime green with a glossy interior version of the same.

A yunomi (Japanese) is a cup with no handle, usually shaped taller than wide for informal tea. Daily elegance for whatever you enjoy drinking.

I throw these on the potter’s wheel and then use stamps I design and make to impress and alter the surface of the cup. My fingerprint is on the other side of each one of the stamps. I also decorate with slip-trailing --the clay version of cake decorating—to add dots and swirls of texture. No molds are used!

The undulation from the stamping and relief of the slip creates a wonderfully soft and tactile surface.

Elegant and intended for your use and enjoyment much like Grandma’s dishes, handmade pottery can need (and happily, deserves) a little more love to prolong its life than contemporary manufactured ware. While durable and microwavable, hand washing is recommended. Do not pour boiling, stovetop water directly into handmade ware. “Pre-warming” pieces by filling with warm/hot tap water prior to pouring hot water for coffee or tea is recommended.

The clay and glazes are lead-free and food safe.
