Woodland Casserole Dish for Two
Description
This dish is made of white stoneware clay fired to cone 6. The inside and rim are glazed with a mottled, satin blue glaze. The glaze varies from a pale blue color with dark blue speckled variations to tan where thinner. It is safe for use with food, in the oven and in the microwave. It would be useful as a little casserole/side dish for two or as a hot dip or appetizer dish. This dish stands 2 and 1/4 inches tall. At the widest section it measures 20 and 1/2 inches around. The rim spans 6 and 1/2 inches across and the bottom is to 5 and 7/8 inches across.
The outside has been imprinted with real leaves that grow in the Appalachian mountains. The bowl has been rubbed and painted with an iron oxide. This method intensifies the veins of the leaves and all colors are waterproof and permanent. The leaves used were peony, white oak, tulip poplar, bush cherry, intermediate wood fern, fall phlox, red maple, passion flower, sassafras, sycamore, wisteria, dogwood, washington hawthorne, and silver maple.
As with all pottery used in the oven, temperature extremes can cause cracks. Don't put pottery in a preheated oven. Let clay pieces warm up with the oven. Make sure the container is not empty when heated. Pottery shouldn't go straight from the oven and into a refrigerator, etc.
Thanks for looking.
