Description

Each one of these beauties measures about 3.75" across. There is a tiny hole for a wire on the back of each one (doesn't go through the whole plate), in case you'd like to hang them on the wall. It was hard for me to believe this adorable set of two corresponding dishes was actually vintage. I knew it was, but they are in such impeccable condition, they pretty much look brand new. According to the Arabia of Finland website, this mark was only used between 1964 and 1971. So that's their age.

They each depict a child, one sitting in the flowers with a basket and holding a singing bird, and the other girl riding on a bicycle with a basket of flowers on the front. The style is that of a pen-and-ink drawing. The color is black on white, very glossy and shiny. There is a very tiny chip on the bottom of both - maybe because of the way they were stored at some point? As you can see, the dish with the biking girl is a tiny bit smudged on one side of the image. This appears to be under the glaze (original blemish?). There's also a tiny, nearly invisible, scratch on this one.

These are sometimes called pin dishes or pin trays, although there is a vast array of uses you can find for them! They remind me of soy sauce dishes you get with your sushi. :)
