Cabled Pie Hat pattern

November 2006: I’ve been making these hats for a few months now, when various people in my life have needed hats – to wear during chemotherapy treatment, to use up the end of a stunning ball of yarn too good to put back in the drawer, to wear under a riding hat for endurance rides. The hat is a quick knit and is quite stretchy so there’re quite a wide variety of sizes to make here. The hat is so named because the cables on the top look like neat pastry folds that you seen on Cornish pasties or meat pies. The beauty of that design feature is that the increases are on the outside of the cap so won’t irritate sensitive scalps, and can be worn under helmets!
