Description

Part of a series, this almost-square (1 3/4 x 1 1/2 in.) piece is one of several abstract collages comprised of small sections of photographs made on a recent trip to Ireland (these particular ones are mostly from an evening in Dublin).

The predominant colors are browns, reds, purple, and gold; cut sections of the photos were "shuffled" and interspersed with one another, so that their subjects are entirely obscured and the focus becomes the colors and patterns that remain. The various sections are mounted in a "stacked" fashion across the surface of a support board, resulting in composite paper images that mimic sedimentary rock.

This series based on the above, in its individual pieces, contains a variety of embellishment items; the one described here being outlined/edged with gold embossing. Each piece also has elements achieved by texturizing of the component papers (wrinkling, corrugation, etc.), which adds subtle dimensionality.
