Sarigerme Earrings
Description
These earrings are named after a resort town on the Turkish Turquoise Coast. The word turquoise comes from the Old French pierre turquoise, the “Turkish stone”, Turkey being the primary source of turquoise back then. The Egyptians, however, began mining Turquoise as early as 5500 BC. In 1900, archaeologists who excavated the tomb of the Egyptian Queen Zer (5500 BC) found a Turquoise and gold bracelet on her wrist. They are the world’s oldest known examples of surviving jewelry.
They are 1 1/2" long.
