Okay, so I was a secret, closet Tetris fanatic from about, oh, 1993 to 1996. It was a bitter-sweet obsession. My life wasn't so great, but I could control the stacking of a few measly blocks, dammit! Or could I? Video games have been coming back to haunt my dreams as of late, and I find myself stacking blocks, jumping away from a frighteningly-large Q*Bert, and slipping off of logs next to a pixellated frog. This skirt is the result of those nightmares.

The skirt itself is fairly simple: straight-styled, below-the-knee length, with an elastic (encased) waist, side zipper and hook and eye closure, and a back kick pleat. The black fabric is a modern stretch cotton blend.

What makes the skirt is the applique: dozens of multi-colored Tetris blocks building up to a maddening grid of mis-steps, wrong turns, and generally poor game play. This drove me crazy making it, since I had to make sure that each level has at least one empty cube (or else the line of blocks would drop out, remember). I just keep staring at it and thinking: "why would I turn that long block like that? " and "who would ever put a square *there*?!"

To "top it all off" (egads what a horrid pun!), the top 2 red square-shaped blocks are functioning patch pockets. All pieces are firmly attached with zigzag stitching--not a true applique or satin stitch, but this would have made it too bulky, so this is more of a "quilted" design than an appliqued one.
