Description

This is an original work on stretched canvas. The images wrap around the edge so it is ready to hang. It measures 12" by 16". It has a thick, protective gloss. It's $450. (I'd like to thank Anahata Katkin for some of the images in the headdress.)

Recently, I was asked to provide information about the inspiration behind these pieces. The key, for me, is in the name: Icon. An Icon can be a religious symbol, as in a deity or an image of the Virgin Mary. Notice the position of the hands. They are connecting themselves, their hearts, with God. Essentially, they are calling themselves divine. An icon can also be a political figure, such as Mao or Hitler, someone seen as being the leader, the center of a movement that will lead to heaven on earth or utopia. The problem is that there is no one concept that can resolve all of our problems, or one religion that will make us perfect as individuals or a society. Does this mean there are no deities or that we might all be deities? That we need a multiplicity of spiritual/religious concepts or none at all?
