Sock Monkey Dreams is a book about sock monkeys, what sock monkeys think, what they believe, what they do in their spare time, and their history. It is the story of the Red Heel Monkey Shelter, a supposed shelter for homeless sock monkeys in North Carolina. It's funny, weird, informative, and unique.

The book is based on a real collection of sock monkeys, made over the last seven decades by monkey makers from all over the US. But the stories are comments on human society, told from the point of view of sock monkeys, who have learned every thing they know about the world from watching humans, but who don't get it quite right.
