Pint Cup Set, Wood-Fired with Screen Printed Decals
Description
This great set of two pint cups was slip-cast in porcelain from original moulds. The flame decals were screen printed by hand, and applied to the clay underneath the glaze - they will never wear off like overglaze decals. Finally, the cups were wood-fired in an anagama kiln - one with a shino liner glaze, the other with a temmoku. The outside of the cups are unglazed; the outer color and patina is achieved from the random flame patterns in the kiln and the wood ash which is deposited on the clay and melts into a natural glaze. The intense heat from wood-firing has warped the lips slightly, so if you are obsessed with perfect symmetry, these tumblers are not for you. These cups blend a traditional firing method with a contemporary aesthetic, and await your favorite beverage. The glazes are food-safe, but the crackled shino may darken in the fine crazing lines if fluids prone to staining are left in the cup over long periods of time without washing.
