Reserved For Heather - These Hippos Are Happy
Description
****Attention: This listing is reserved for Heather.****This is a fun and quirky piece about two hippos in love. It is roughly 10" x 11 1/2". It is an original encaustic painting on cradled birch plywood and ready to hang. It is signed and dated on the back. It has a lovely antique collage writing that says: "In language the divisions of speech are indicated by punctuation marks. In music the punctuation marks are not written; but are, so to speak, understood. Thus a group"
I have hoarded this piece for myself since 2003. I am hoping to give these happy hippos a happy home.
About encaustics:
Encaustic is a painting method where color-pigmented beeswax is melted, applied to a surface and reheated to fuse the paint into a smooth or textured finish. The word encaustic comes from Greek and means 'to burn in', which refers to the process of fusing the paint. The durability of encaustic is due to the fact that beeswax is impervious to moisture. Because of this it will not deteriorate. Encaustic paintings do not have to be varnished or protected by glass. People always ask if it will melt. I say, "The melting temp. is 165 degrees...so if your house gets that hot, you better get out!" Just don't stick your painting in the trunk of your car in middle of summer or throw it in a snowbank and you will have your lovely painting to pass down from generation to generation!
