Hot Salsa, Cha Cha Cha, Ole

Ever since she could remember (well at least since she was 5 years old) Lolita wanted to be a flamenco dancer. The excitement, the intensity, the music, the costumes, the color, it all just seemed to draw her. And she was very successful. In fact she became the #1 dancer in the nation!

But now when she dances all she can think about is getting home and closing her door on all the noise and commotion of the world. Then slip her tired little feet into a nice hot soothing foot bath. Later she will slip into a hot bubble bath with a good book and a cold drink at her side. Oblivion. She thinks - what did she want to be when she grew up - Oh yeah - a flamenco dancer!

I thought Lolita would be an OOAK when I first met her but now I'm not so sure - Rosa her sister is hiding behind the curtain.

Lolita started out as a forgotten piece of clip art spied when I was looking for something else. Perfect for Creative Challenge #66 (dance or dancer) I thought! She became a collage fabric fused to more fabric (raw edged). The ruffles on her dress were made from flat sheer ribbon, gathered by hand and glued on. Her facial features and shoes are painted on. I added orange rickrack hand stitched on with tiny seed beads. Seed beads make up her bracelet and hair decoration.

The back is one solid piece of the floral fabric with corner triangles. Slip in a dowel or board to hang her on your wall or place a mat board in the corner triangles to hold her up on an easel.

This piece measures 11 1/2 inches by 16 1/2 inches.
