Description

This heirloom quality piece is an adaptation of a hand painted schachtel (box) that is a part of the Berchtesgadener Museum’s collection. Metallic gold stroke work stands out against the traditional earthy brown background. As is typical in the Berchtesgadener style of Bauernmalerei*, dots, comma strokes, and swirls accent this stylized floral motif.
This shaker style box is 15 inches in diameter and 7 inches high--a perfect size for storing a hat, wedding memorabilia, or for use as a sewing/mending box. Handcrafted by Snaggy Hollow Craftsmen in Saluda, NC from Blue Ridge Mountain grown poplar trees, this box is light weight yet sturdy and perfectly compliments the airy design. The interior has a medium dark brown stain finish.
I try to create heirloom quality pieces that are affordable for everyday enjoyment. If you enjoyed looking at this item, please take a look at the other items I have listed right now and add my shop to your favorites list by giving me a heart.

I'll know that you'd like the Priority Mail option by the extra $30 remitted, but you can also leave a note to seller during check out asking me to use Priority Mail if you'd like.

*Bauernmalerei (pronounced bow-urn-maler-rye) is a style of decorative European folk painting that is associated with the handiwork of rural peasants residing primarily in Germany, Austria and Switzerland who used the stylized stroke work to embellish functional household items. Examples of Bauernmalerei, which is often referred to as Bavarian Folk Art, can be seen on everything from wooden thimbles to tin boxes, glassware, pottery, clothing, and large pieces of furniture.
