8" x10" Original Encaustic Painting on Masonite

This amazingly detailed and original, one of kind encaustic, mixed media painting.
is truely a unique piece of art.

Magical, enchanting, deeply textured, and 3 dimensional, it was painted on 8'x10 masonite board.

I painted it through the process of encaustic painting. A layer of beeswax was applied to the board...then an undercoat of encaustic paint was applied and fused to the beeswax with a heat gun.

After that more paint, and collage imagery and rice papers were added, with each layer having beeswax overlayed and heat fused. Layer upon layer of paint and beeswax was added to give a textured feel to the piece

Lavender flowers grown in my garden, were applied and fused with beeswax.. I then carved and scraffittoed into the painting with lines incised to enhance the texture and imagery.


This encaustic painting can be fitted into a standard 8"x10 frame. It will be a magical addition to anyones art collection, and is perfect for children, the child within and lovers of the Fair Folk.


For those of you who don't know what ENCAUSTIC is...
Encaustic is beeswax-based paint that is kepy molton on a heated palette. It is applied to the surface and reheated to fuse the paint into a uniform enamel-like finish.

Encaustic has a long history, but it is as versatile as any 20th century medium. It can be polished to a high gloss; it can be modeled, sculpted, textured, and combined with collage materials, It cool immediately, so there is no drying time, yet it can always be reworked.
