Cravat Combo no. 2 Wallet made from vintage necktie and denim

Before I started working on denim projects, I was really attracted to working with vintage neckties. It's just impossible to find those crazy patterned fabrics anywhere else but on men's neck fashions.

As my crafting skills grew, I was designing more elaborate tie products and even had a small line of necktie hats.

Eventually I found my way to high end denim which, in comparison to working with necktie fabrics, was much more consistent to work with and readily available (I alter jeans for a local denim store).

Now I've finally decided to merge the two materials into a product that I feel is eye catching and has consistent quality while remaining a true one of a kind.

For sale here is one of my wallet and wallet chain combos made from high end japanese selvage denim, leather from a vintage jacket, and one vintage necktie.

This Cravat Combo is made from a green 60's polyester tie with shiny gold thread patterns.

The wallet chain is made out of the same tie that is used on the wallet. It's chain stitched on a vintage Union Special industrial machine for a strong and stylish stitch. For the clamp, I used a quality nickel plated c-clamp. Not only is this clamp great for clipping onto your belt loops, but it's also a great way to carry your keys for easy access.

The denim used is sugarcane denim (from a pair of Sugarcane Okinawas). Sugarcane arguably manufactures some of the world’s most unique selvage jeans. The denim is made from sugarcane cotton and weaved in Japan on old style shuttle looms, which give the denim more character. If you smell these wallets, they actually have a sweet smell to them. The dye job is also very unique, it’s hard to see indoors, but in good sunlight you can see darker areas of dye and lighter areas. I know that sounds bad, but it actually looks good. Not to mention, this denim is very soft, for raw denim. I can’t say enough about it.
