Description

Once upon a time in a Craftyland far far away lived a Crafty Princess Alyssa. She had a deep reverence and admiration for music in all of it's forms, and loved to make crafty, music-related items for all. One day on her way to VintageVille she passed through RecycleTown and ThriftyCity, as she passed she saw many old, scratched and broken down vinyl record albums. These days, everyone still listened to the music that was on those old vinyl albums, but they listened to it on their iPods or CDs, and there sat all this lovely old vinyl, waiting for a clever person to rescue them and give them new life. "Oh no!" she cried "This is so sad, all this beautiful artwork going to waste here in ThriftyCity. Whatever can I do?"
She went back to her castle and that night while she dreamed she tossed and turned as she tried to think of a way to save her beloved vinyl from the DumpHeap. Ah ha! She sat bolt upright in bed as the idea hit her, a way she could save the vinyl albums from their dusty grave and bring them forth for a new batch of artists, writers, crafters, students, or whomever to be inspired by the vinyl art to their own creations.
She rushed downstairs and woke up Crafty Queen Tara and told her of the plan. The Queen of all things crafty and recyclable approved highly of Princess Alyssa's daring concept and so they went to RecycleTown and ThriftyCity and Queen Tara waved her magic wand over all the dusty old record albums and lo! Shiny new blank books were born!
And so, at last, the crafty ladies took their creations to the Halls of Etsy so that all the residents of Craftyland could enjoy the bounty.

I'm trying to remember the first time I heard of The Specials, I'm not exactly sure when it was, but I think the first time I paid attention was a few years ago when I heard the lead singer of The Zutons saying he had been heavily influenced by ska bands like The Specials and Madness. I still wasn't sure about ska though, I didn't know what it was all about and didn't understand how it related to punk/post-punk or if I was interested.
Until, one magical day, I saw the video for 'A Message To You Rudy', and knew I was definitely interested. What a charming, heartfelt and beautiful little song. It never fails to make me smile every time I hear it. In the video one of the boys in the band does this amazing little bendy thing with his tiny little legs in drainpipes (YES!) where he kind of slides down with both legs out...it's hard to explain, look it up on YouTube. I totally love it though and everytime I see the video I can be heard shouting and pointing 'THE LEGS! THE LEGS!'.
I was quite happy when we found this lovely record of The Special's, especially cause I get to keep the vinyl!! It's got a genius photo of the band on the cover all looking at something off in the distance, and a back insert page with a delightfuly monochromatic second photo of the band. Love it!

NOTE ABOUT JOURNAL SHIPPING COSTS:
They are $5 for domestic shipping to the US because they can be put in a flat rate envelope. Unfortunately they are rather heavy which means their international shipping costs are high.
