Star Apron
Description
The construction of each of the aprons in this series begins with found vintage linens. The reuse of materials is a significant element in these aprons. It could be anything from a table runner to a hankie. I look for pieces that have clearly been made or embellished by hand. The handwork on these pieces could be embroidery, appliqué, or tatting. Once I have found just the right textile it dictates the construction of the apron from color scheme to sewing style. Next, I design some of my own fabric by screen-printing, mono-printing, stamping, stenciling, or a combination of them to incorporate into the piece. From there I begin constructing the apron by sewing, adding pieces of trim or other accessories. My ultimate goal for these aprons is a marriage between the long forgotten and the present; the memories they hold and the memories they will help to foster.
