Description

I built this lovely with quite the variety of materials..........
18 gauge anodized aluminum
26 gauge colored copper
jerusalem artichoke canes, harvested from my yard and dried
fibers from the utah agave plant, collected from dead leaves on the trail of the grand canyon
24 gauge anodized titanium
28 gauge yellow brass
20 and 24 gauge bronze
all woven and crocheted by me, into a tactile basket form which casts a lovely shadow when light is passing through it.It measures approx 4.5"(11.43 cm) wide and 4.5"(11.43 cm)deep.

This piece is very strong and you can feel the flexibility when you gently squeeze it.
I love to combine these plant materials with metals, I leave the plants pretty raw, I love their natural texture and juxtaposed with the metal, I find it an interesting contrast. The plant fibers looks very stiff and hard and the metal looks very soft and malleable, where as typically I think of those two materials in the opposite way.
