Vintage Satin Obi Pillow

Description

Nothing illustrates the serenity embodied in traditional Japanese culture more than a flowing kimono and wide obi. Kimono and obi are made from stunning fabrics, are often hand-painted or embroidered, and are always created with an attention to detail and beauty. These garments are used in daily and in ceremonial life; new and even vintage kimonos may cost thousands of dollars.

We rescue damaged kimono and obi and reinfuse them with purpose by creating these beautiful pillows. Pillows are not made to a standard size, instead, key design elements are extracted from the garments and become the central motif of each pillow.

Our pillows are then filled with our custom blend of Mullet--organically grown millet and buckwheat hulls—buckwheat to provide aeration and support, and millet to soften the edges.

These 2 pillows were made from a single vintage obi and measure 8 x 14 inches.
