This necklace is in the Byzantine — or Birdcage — weave. The Byzantine weave is classic, and possibly the most recognizable chain maille weave. In this piece, very small rings are used to achieve a delicate yet substantial necklace.

The rings used in this necklace are very small — 21 gauge — and the necklace is just 1/8-inch wide (4mm). It is made from sterling silver rings and closes with your choice of a small sterling silver lobster clasp, or a sterling silver toggle clasp — you can see an example of the toggle clasp here:

The rings used are so small that this width weave, also sold as a bracelet, makes a beautiful chain necklace. It is lovely, complex yet subtle, and can easily be worn every day.
