Butte County is an agricultural center. One of its largest crops is almonds. Winter around the almond orchards is a time of devastation and glory. Winter storms uproot hundreds of the trees. It is heartbreaking to see row after row of trees on their side, roots in the air. Late Winter brings the blossoms. White blossoms, pink blossoms - acre after acre - as far as the eye can see. The blossoms are short lived, but glorious. This photo was taken outside the little town of Dayton - essentially a few dozen houses, a cemetery, and orchards, orchards, orchards. For those interested, the variety of the almonds is Padre.
