I really love this piece, not only because the model is my man, but also because of my heartfelt and strong bond with the ancient history of the Scandinavians - My people.

Also I wanted to portray another side of the vikings, the side of the men reluctant to leave their family and loved ones behind, the men who might want to stay at home as the farmers and peaceful men many of them where.. Certainly not all of these men where grusome and bloodthirsty..

The fact is that these men were regularly called to war by the king or their local 'chieftain', and where not allowed to refuse.. As in war today, some where cruel and using power to their advantage, and some only defended themselves and tried to stay away from harming innocent people...

About the Artist:

Name: Ida Mary Walker Larsen.
Born: December 1981

Is Danish/American, born of American mother and Danish father in 1981 in Denmark. She's been creative since childhood, continuing to draw when her peers stopped, developing her own style ever since. When the internet became available to her at age 17 a whole new world opened up. She got her own computer, bought a digital tablet and pen and began her journey into digital art.

Fantasy, nature and mythology are themes that inspire her the most. Dragons, fairies, trolls and elves are creatures of her world.
She's been doing freelance work since mid 2005.
