This is for a packet of 50+ amaranth seeds. Amaranth "Marvel Bronze" is a gorgeous and bold plant that grows to 6' tall. It will self seed so you will have it in years to come. The dried flowers are used in floral arrangements as they hold their form and color for a very long time.
Amaranth is highly nutritious. You can eat the leaves and stems as greens, and the seed makes a wonderful cereal and flour. This little known grain is referred to as "the crop of the future" due to its potential. Amaranth seeds contain complete proteins, unusual for plants. Regular consumption has been shown to reduce blood pressure and cholesterol, and the plant is high in antioxidants.
Amaranth grows very quickly and is drought tolerant. The burgundy colored flowers produce thousands of seeds that are appreciated by wildlife as well as people.
Amaranth is native to the Americas, and in Mexico was known as "The Grain of the Gods". The population used the seeds mixed with honey to fashion likenesses of the Gods. When the Spanish arrived, the condemned the ritual as being a parody of communion, and forbade growing the plant. Due to this, the species was almost wiped out, save for a few small populations that continued growing it in remote regions.
