Grand Sakura Kanzashi

Description

Warm peachy-pink petals with rosie tips look like a springtime treat. One large flower at the head of this piece is followed by one medium and three smaller flowers, then drifts into twig pieces blooming with fresh buds and leaves. Each flower has a golden stamen center and is mounted individually on the comb The twig pieces are flexible and can be gently guided behind or around the last flower or two to be re-arranged, adding to the complexity of the piece.

Every single petal is hand cut, hand dyed, hand folded and hand mounted by me with love, care and skill.

Not everybody loves to wear hair combs, but it just takes some finesse. Sometimes I wear hair combs behind the top of my ponytail if I don't want to pull my hair up in the front. It looks really cute! This one would look great with hair in an up-do or French twist.

The larger bloom is 2" wide, the medium one is 1.5" wide and the three smaller ones are 1" wide. The length the longest twig dangles past the edge of the comb is about 3.25" and the comb is about 3.25" wide and 2" tall.


---Kanzashi Background & Care---
Kanzashi are hair ornaments worn in traditional Japanese hair styles, most often seen adorning geisha or maiko or worn with kimono attire. Flower kanzashi are called 'hana kanzashi' and the traditional technique used to make this type is called 'tsumami'.

All of my kanzashi are made using as many traditional Japanese techniques and materials as is possible. The few modern materials I use are only done so to make the assembly stronger for more liberal wear.
