Amber Bowl with Rose Leaves

Description

This Bowl is made of white stoneware clay fired to cone 6. The inside and rim are glazed with a glossy, honey amber glaze. The glaze varies from a pale amber color to a dark amber pooling around the throw rings where the glaze was thicker.

This bowl stands 3 and 1/8 inches tall. At the widest section it measures 16 1nd 1/2 inches around. The rim spans 5 and 7/16 inches across and the trimmed foot tapers to 2 and 6/8 inches across.

The outside has been imprinted with real leaves that grow in the appalachian mountains. The bowl has been rubbed and painted with an iron oxide. This method intensifies the veins of the leaves and all colors are waterproof and permanent. The leaves used were rose of sharon, golden rod, eastern redbud, honeysuckle, morning glory, wood sorrel, rose, skunk meadow rue, forsythia, tulip poplar, queen anne's lace, apple, and japanese maple.
