Description

Welcome to the cardboard kitchen, where everything is made out of recycled material. It's lo-cal, and earth friendly! All items prepared in the cardboard kitchen include a list of ingredients. It's interesting to see where your recycled food originated.

I choose the cardboard for each piece by carefully studying the color, texture, and surface variations. And since cardboard is a rigid material, it can be quite challenging to form it into organic shapes. Every piece of cardboard that you see, and many that you can't see on the completed piece, is cut and meticulously glued on individually. And I love the colors!

Although cardboard is not archival, I treat it with an acid neutralizing spray, and construct with archival glue. On occasion I use gesso, which is archival. I have been working with cardboard for 10 years, and clients tell me those pieces are still in fine shape!

This cupcake was inspired by a recent conversation with a soon to be married friend. We were exploring all the decorating possibilities for her wedding cupcakes. I liked this idea, so I baked it up in the cardboard kitchen!
It's a soft mound of white airy mousseline buttercream, piped on with a #809 tip for that cloud like spiral of frosting, topped off with stamped fondant flowers nestled on a bed of lightly toasted coconut. I made 3 flowers and 2 leaves for my cupcake.
