Prism - kumihimo braided bracelet

Description

This bracelet is a 16-strand flat kumihimo braid, which I made from mixed, hand-dyed fibres in a beautiful rainbow of colours.

The braid is 1.2cm (~1/2") wide, and the bracelet measures 20cm (7 7/8" approx.) in circumference. It opens and closes with an antique bronze lobster clasp.


Kumihimo, an ancient Japanese craft, is a type of braiding done using a frame, called a marudai, and bobbins (in multiples of 4). In Japan, kumihimo braids are used to make obijime ties for kimono, and were used to assemble samurai armour.
