This is a packet of approximately 100+ Elecampane seeds. Bees, butterflies and birds all love this cheery plant. It is also known as Elfwort, as it is a favorite of the elves, and is good for the fairy garden as it attracts fairies. :)

Elecampane is a perennial blooming the second year from seed. Seeds may be sown direct for germination, or started indoors early to germinate at room temperature in 7-10 days. This is a large plant, growing 4'-6' tall and 2'-3' wide. It produces many bright cheery yellow-orange flowers and makes a great plant for the back of the border or as a living fence. This plant likes full sun and moist soil. It is hardy in zones 5-8, although other sources say zones 3-9.
This plant was given the name "helenium" because it is the flower Helen of Troy was picking when she was kidnapped by Paris. Medicinally, the roots are used quite sucessfully to treat illnesses of the lungs, such as pnuemonia, coughs and bronchitis. It is an expectorant and also a sedative and sometimes used to treat general gastrointestinal complaints. It contains inulin and is used to treat diabetes.
Elecampane is also used to flavor absinthe and vermouth. The root is edible and is sometimes candied. It is a scent fixative and may be used in place of orris root for potpourri.
Magically, it attracts love when carried and aids psychic powers when burned.

These seeds were harvested Summer of 2008 for 2009 planting. All of my seeds are harvested by hand from plants grown organically, without the use of any chemicals. Seeds are packed in plastic bags and are kept cool until shipment. Please convo me with any questions.
