Description
Our Hummingbird feeders are made by Bill using Boro glass. The glass is strong and durable and made to weather the outdoor elements.
Removing the spout from the feeder makes it easy to fill with nectar.
Bill also made the bead in the chain wirework.
I created the chain adding the boro bead and small glass beads into heavy duty wire work.
From the top of the wire work loop to the bottom of the feeder vessel this measure about 8.75 inches long.
The vessel itself is about 2.88” in diameter.
All of our glass is annealed in a kiln run by a digital ramping controller.
Thank you for your time and have a fun and wonderful day,
Rae Grout
Bill and I did a lot of research before designing our hummingbird feeders. One of our goals was to create a feeder that does not drip.
We found a Hummingbird's tongue is 2 to 3” long, this allowed us to make a feeder the bird drinks from the top, preventing dripping.
More about Hummingbirds per Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
They are known as hummingbirds because of the humming sound created by their beating wings which flap at high frequencies audible to humans. They hover in mid-air at rapid wing-flapping rates, which vary from around 12 beats per second in the largest species, to in excess of 80 in some of the smallest. Of those species that have been measured in wind tunnels, their top speed exceeds 15 m/s (54 km/h; 34 mph) and some species can dive at speeds in excess of 22 m/s (79 km/h; 49 mph).
Hummingbirds have the highest metabolism of any homeothermic animal. To conserve energy when food is scarce, and nightly when not foraging, they can go into torpor, a state similar to hibernation, slowing metabolic rate to 1/15th of its normal rate.

We are happy to ship to our international friends. It is fun to see our blown glass art shared around the world. We do fill out customers forms and declare the value of each item. I am sorry if this is an inconvenience but we live in a small town and everyone at the post office knows us and we have to be good kids.
