40 Trident Maple seeds (w/ 10-year bonsai growing guide) / Acer buergerianum bonsai seed kit

Trident maple / Acer buergerianum is one of the best species for growing bonsai due to its fast-growing nature and beautiful red, yellow, and orange fall foliage colors. Tridents are especially suited for root-over-rock plantings, exposed root, forest plantings, but are flexible to any other bonsai style as well.

These seeds were sourced from a landscape tree at the famous Elandan Gardens. Like all "bonsai seeds", they are not genetically distinct from the species at large and it will require your knowledge of bonsai to make beautiful bonsai with these seeds. To that end, I have written what I believe is the most comprehensive information package on the complete process of growing a bonsai from seed. Please note that trident maples grow best outdoors within USDA hardiness zones 5-9.

For best results, follow the procedure below for germination.
1. Scarification: Let stand in water for 24 hours.
2. Stratification: cold stratify for 90 days.
(Can go straight to cold stratifying and can try shorter length if desired, but success may be lower.)
(During stratification, storing with damp sphagnum moss or paper towels in a ziplock bag should work.)
