Achristocraft painting #20003

Grin & Barrett
Acrylic on plywood. (19 1/2" x 20")

One of my favorites. The imagery says it all with bold symbolism. The weight of the world crushing down on this figure turns the egghead's mind rotten. What can one do in this world but grin and bear it sometimes...or is that grin that of the Cheshire Cat laughing at its prey? A train barrelling down the tracks ready to run the egghead down? The title is a play on words, suggesting a logo for a fictitious law firm, two named entities battling it out within the frame, a sarcastic nudge to distract the viewer from the emotional anguish of the depicted iconography. It's a lot of work hoisting the world upon one's shoulders...or so it goes. Just ask any politician.

A friend had told me it reminded him of Edvard Munch's The Scream. I hadn't thought about that at all when I penned the original design, but I certainly saw the similarities when he brought it up. The angles and overall feel is there, not to mention a ghostly figure screaming. The world drives people crazy at times. True back then as it is today. The world keeps turning though and all you can do is...

Grin and bear it, Barrett. Bare it all.

I made T-shirts with 2 color versions of Grin & Barrett shown here as well. You'll receive one as an added bonus with this painting purchase. Enjoy!
