A striking sterling silver and copper chain maille ring.
I make this unique ring entirely by hand from sterling silver and pure copper wire: I start by making lots and lots of tiny little rings, which I then weave together one by one to create this beautiful spiral pattern. Although each ring is quite tiny – only around 4mm in diameter! - interlocking them together makes the finished ring quite strong, yet still light and comfortable. I love the contrast between the colours of silver and copper, which work together beautifully in this ring to accentuate the spiral pattern.
It took me a fair amount of experimenting to finally be able to make a ring that is both supple and holds its shape nicely, as the exact proportions of the diameter and thickness of each ring determine how loose or stiff the chain will be. It is very slow, precise work, but I think the final result is definitely worth it!
As you can see from the photos, this ring is quite unique in that it can bend and fold (gently). You'll be surprised by how comfortable it is to wear – unlike traditional metal rings, it will mould to the shape of your finger perfectly.
I also make an even smaller, more delicate version of this ring in sterling silver, which you can find here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/280178924
You can also find another silver chain mail ring I make, this one with a more open weave, here:
