Mi nombre es Katy Evett Taylor, y 'Cider Tree Copper Works' es el nombre que le di a mi pequeño negocio y espacio de taller en casa ubicado en Cheshire, donde diseño y hago joyas y esculturas de metal inspiradas en mi amor por la naturaleza, la vida silvestre, el folclore y la magia.
En mi obra verás muchos zorros, liebres y pájaros hechos con una fusión de metales mezclados, como cobre, latón y plata esterlina. Mi trabajo está hecho a mano y siempre es increíblemente detallado, por lo que no hay dos piezas iguales.
Descubrí la orfebrería por primera vez en un curso de Artes Contemporáneas que tomé a principios de los años 2000. Mientras estuve allí, probé suerte en una amplia gama de disciplinas, desde cerámica y textiles hasta grabado y esculturas de sauce, pero siempre fue el departamento de metalistería el que me inclinó hacia.
Me encantaban las cálidas y acogedoras lámparas de escritorio que había sobre los bancos de joyería, especialmente por la noche, cuando los estudiantes trabajaban hasta tarde para terminar algo. Cada uno se sentaba en una clavija del banco, serrando, limando o estampando, completamente absorto en sus propias creaciones. Incluso ahora, el ruido del metal que se apaga, el agua burbujeante y los sopletes que se encienden me llevan directamente a ese momento.
Después de graduarme, me encontré trabajando en varios entornos creativos, pero no fue hasta 2018 cuando redescubrí mi pasión por el diseño y la fabricación manuales y, especialmente, por trabajar con metales. Poco después, con la ayuda de amigos y familiares, construí un estudio en casa, lo llené de equipos y recreé ese ambiente acogedor y, muy pronto, comencé a fabricar y vender obras junto con mi trabajo diario mientras volvía a aprender habilidades, desarrollaba otras nuevas y adquiría herramientas que no había usado en años. En 2021, me lancé y me dediqué a tiempo completo, y el resto, como dicen, es historia.
Actualmente tengo mi trabajo en galerías de Staffordshire, Cheshire, Yorkshire, Northumberland, Escocia y las Islas Sorlingas y he expuesto mi trabajo en todo el Reino Unido.

My name is Katy Evett Taylor, and 'Cider Tree Copper Works' is the name I gave to my little business and home workshop space based in Cheshire, where I design and make jewellery and metal sculpture inspired by my love of nature, wildlife, folklore & magic.
Throughout my work you will see, plenty of foxes, hares and birds made from a fusion of mixed metals including copper, brass, and sterling silver. My work is hand crafted and always incredibly detailed, so no two pieces are ever the same.
I first discovered metalsmithing on a B.A Contemporary Crafts course that I took in the early 2000's. Whilst there, I tried my hand at a wide range of disciplines from ceramics and textiles to printmaking and willow sculpture, but it was always the metalwork department that I gravitated to.
I loved the cosy warm desk lamps on the jewellery benches, especially at night when students would work late into the evening to get something finished. Each sat at a bench peg, sawing, filing, or stamping, completely lost in their own creations. Even now the noise of quenching metal, fizzing water and blow torches igniting take me straight back there.
After graduation I found myself working in several creative environments, but it wasn't until 2018 that I rediscovered my passion for hands on designing and making and especially working with metals again. Not long after, with help from friends and family, I built a home studio, filled it with equipment and recreated that cosy vibe and pretty soon I started making and selling work alongside my day job as I relearnt skills, developed new ones and picked up tools that I hadn't used in years. In 2021 I took the plunge and went fulltime, and the rest, as they say is history.
I now have my work in galleries in Staffordshire, Cheshire, Yorkshire, Northumberland, Scotland, and the Isles of Scilly and have exhibited my work throughout the UK.
