Nel 2006 cercavo un modo per esprimere la mia creatività e il mio talento artistico. Non ero abbastanza interessata alla pittura, alla scultura o alla ceramica. Un collega mi invitò a partecipare a una fiera di perline lì vicino durante la pausa pranzo. Ero molto interessata a tutte le varietà e i colori di perline che vedevo, oltre agli esempi di come combinarle. Ne rimasi affascinata e comprai alcune bustine di perline di vetro e pietre preziose, oltre a filo flessibile e fermagli, per realizzare una collana. Fu divertentissimo. Partecipai ad altre fiere di perline e pietre preziose e conobbi alcuni negozi di perline e negozi online. Era così gratificante creare bracciali, collane e orecchini da sola, che mi chiesi se avrei potuto compensare parte dei costi vendendoli online e alle fiere dell'artigianato. Creai il mio primo account Etsy, KeeDesigns, nel 2007 e lo chiamai in onore della mia spiaggia preferita, Ke'e, sull'isola di Kauai.
Nel 2008 ho iniziato a seguire corsi di fusione a cera persa presso un centro di formazione per adulti nelle vicinanze e ho imparato a fondere modelli in cera per realizzare pendenti, ciondoli e anelli in argento Sterling e Argentium. Mi piace molto realizzare componenti e accessori in argento e poi combinarli con le mie abilità di cablaggio e infilatura.
Lungo il percorso ho imparato a saldare metalli preziosi e ora ho una stazione di saldatura completa a casa, con una torcia che utilizza propano e ossigeno come combustibili.
I was searching for a way to be creative and artistic in 2006. I wasn't interested enough in painting, sculpting or pottery making. A coworker invited me to attend a nearby bead show on our lunch break. I was so interested in all the varieties and colors of beads I saw as well as examples of how to combine them. I was smitten and bought a few bags of glass and gemstone beads as well as some flex wire and clasps so I could make a necklace. It was so much fun. I attended other bead and gem shows and got acquainted with some bead stores and online shops. It was so rewarding to make my own bracelets, necklaces and earrings, so I wondered if I could offset some of my costs by selling pieces online and at craft fairs. I created my first Etsy account KeeDesigns in 2007 and named it after my favorite beach Ke'e on the island of Kauai.
In 2008 I started taking classes in the art of Lost Wax Casting at a nearby Adult Education program and learned to cast wax patterns into Sterling and Argentium silver pendants, charms and rings. I really enjoy making my own silver components and findings then combining them with my wiring and stringing skills.
Along the way I learned how to solder precious metals and now have a complete soldering station at home with torch that uses propane and oxygen for fuels.
