This is an incredibly rare 19th century work of juvenile fiction by M. L. Ridley. It is known under two titles: "Sent to Coventry" and "The Boys of High Beech". The English Catalogue has it listed as published in 1890 by John M. Shaw, and Co. World Cat has it queried at 1886.
Details:
Heavily browned pages inside, no jacket. Cover inlay in excellent condition, spine intact. Award plate inside front cover.
Author:
M.L. Ridley is also the author of "Our Soldier Hero: The Story Of My Brothers" (1887) and "Walter Alison: His Friends and Foes" both of which are still available in newer reprints. Two other Ridley books have been recently republished as they are considered to be culturally important: "Hillside Farm" (before 1923) and "Our Captain: The Heroes of Barton School."
