2 EXTREMELY RARE 1920’s Antique Ford Model T Dashboard Elgin Clock Vanity w/ Complete Makeup Lipsticks Compact & Lighter
Complete luxury car caddies / caddys / caddy These would’ve been MOUNTED in an old luxury car; Model T Ford!!!!
This is an EXTREMELY rare set of 2 Ford Model T interior dashboard hanging wood clock / vanity with compact and a matching cigarette lighter with notebook and pencil holder / cigarette holder. Both are from 1920s or 1930s. They are exactly the same shape and have the exact same patina so they were most likely matching pieces that were hanging in the same automobile.
(1) The first one is an Elgin 8 Day automotive clock with ornate floral border and beveled glass. The winder comes out the bottom and controls the winding and setting the time. It winds easy and the clock does tick but seems to stop in about an hour. I'm guessing the clock just needs to be cleaned a little.
Inside this piece is the original compact that has a very similar floral design. The compact is marked "E. A. M." which stands for Elgin American Mfg. Yes, this is the same Elgin clock manufacturing company that made compacts! So, soooo rare!!!!! Inside the compact are 2 bigger face powder compartments and a smaller rouge compartment. There are also 2 small lipstick dispensers. With makeup!!!!!
The wood is in excellent condition except for the fact that the varnish has kind of bubbled. This wood piece also has 2 large compartments for lipsticks and another long compartment that maybe held a mirror. It has the original brass hanger that is stamped with the Ford logo. Measurements are 7.5" x 4.5" x 2.75". The height does not include the clock stem and the brass hanger.
(2) The second one has a compartment with an original notebook. The notebook has a little bit of wear on the back side as shown in the photo. There are also 2 smaller compartments that possibly held cigarettes or pencils. On the left side is an electric cigarette lighter with a push button that turns it on. There are 2 brass mounts that are marked "Shepard Art Metal Co., Detroit, Mich." Measurements are the same as the first one.
I'm guessing these were sold probably as an option from the Ford dealer. These do not come up for sale very often, and to find a matching pair with the same patina is quite rare.
