Artist Statement:
I am a self-taught artist from Springfield, Queensland, Australia.
I enjoy painting in watercolours and acrylics. I draw inspiration from the world around me, representing subjects in a colourful and whimsical style. I also enjoy painting scientific subjects including views from the microscope and telescope.
I specialise in 'tree portraits', where people are represented in the form of trees, and family connections are shown using colour, space and shape. I started making these portraits when my son was born, as I wanted a painting for his nursery wall that represented our family. I used blue and yellow trees to represent myself and my husband, and a green tree for our son - the green representing the fact that he is a blend of the two of us. The green hearts show that we are always connected as a family.
My favourite thing about painting is the way it lets me get away from the world for a while. It’s almost like meditation to get lost in the details. I also love the way painting helps me feel connected to others. I love the idea of my painting hanging on another person’s wall and bringing them happiness, even when they may be on the other side of the world.
I have exhibited my work in several group exhibitions including Spring Palette at the Richard Randall Studio Gallery, and Through My Eyes at the Art Factory Gallery. My work is featured in private collections in Australia and Internationally.
