The pattern is available in both imperial and metric measurements, eliminating the need for an "inch to cm" converter.
The pattern conveniently comes with three sizes to meet your requirements. Here are the approximate measurements and suggestions which one to choose:
- SMALL 6-1/4" x 3-1/4" x 1-1/2" (17 x 8 x 4 cm) – great size for kids' sunglasses or reading glasses.
- MEDIUM 7" x 3-1/2" x 1-3/4" (18 x 9 x 4.5 cm) – optimal size for standard sunglasses or slightly bigger reading glasses. If you are not sure which size to choose, I highly recommend starting with this one.
- LARGE 7-1/2" x 4" x 2-1/4" (19 x 10 x 5.5 cm) – for extra large, oversized or vintage big frame sunglasses. This size could also be used as a small pouch for other accessories.
Materials:
• 11” by 11” (27.5 x 27.5 cm) piece/scrap of vinyl, cork, lightweight leather (woven materials are also an option but need to be interfaced)
• 11” by 11” (27.5 x 27.5 cm) piece/scrap of woven lining fabric (cotton, poplin, quilting cotton) or waterproof canvas
• 10” by 10” (27.5 x 27.5 cm) piece/scrap of woven interfacing (if using waterproof canvas, woven interfacing is not required)
• 10” by 9” (25 x 22.5 cm) scrap of Decovil light or Decovil heavy when using lighter exterior fabrics or if you prefer a more sturdy case
• Approximately 14" (35 cm) - 1⁄2” (1.2 cm) double fold bias tape (1” wide elastic, twill tape or ribbon can also be used for binding) - If you are skilled, you can make it yourself to match the interior fabric – when unfolded, it should measure 2” (5 cm).
• 1x 12” to 14” (31 to 35 cm) #5 nylon coil zipper tape (continuous tape preferred, but not necessary, omit metal tapes if possible, because they might scratch the glasses)
• 1x #5 zipper pull/slider
Difficulty Level
This bag's difficulty level ranges from 1 to 2 (1 being the easiest and 3 being the hardest). It's great for beginners who have some experience with making bags and want to give binding a shot. The pattern is designed to work well with domestic sewing machines, but for the best outcome, using an industrial sewing machine is suggested.
