10k Edwardian Cameo Ring with Diamond, Habillé Style, Tri-Color, Rectangle, Flower Foliate, Conch Shell, Size 6.5 (Size 6 1/2), circa 1910s, 2.40 grams.
Lovely shell cameo floral ring featuring a creamy, carved conch shell cameo with a woman in profile with upswept hair secured by a flower and adorned with a diamond necklace in Habille style. The layers of the conch shell provide contrast and shading with the deepest carved layer as the blush peach background and the lighter colored layers for the profile.
The cameo shell is securely bezel set in a rectangular frame with each of the four corners featuring a hand tooled repousse flower. Two of the flowers are formed in green gold, with the other two in pink gold. The shoulders of the ring feature a repousse floral foliate design tailing almost halfway down the sides of the finger. The shoulders taper down from 3mm wide to 1.5mm at the back of the shank and .75mm deep.
The ring's face is just over 1/2" long, 1/2" wide and rises 1/4" off the finger. It weighs 2.40 grams and is a size 6 1/2.
The inside of the band is double stamped "10K" and with an unknown maker's mark that vaguely resembles a wolf's head. I have seen that mark before but haven't been able to identify it. The gold was tested with the GemOro AuRACLE Gold Tester and tested 10k. The diamond was tested with the Presidium Gem Tester. The "chain" in her diamond necklace is more than likely sterling silver.
There is no movement of the cameo and is securely set. There is light scratches on the band and frame and some patina to the gold, attesting to its age. Cameos can dry out with time and need periodic oiling with baby oil or mineral oil. If you would like me to oil the cameo before shipment, I will be happy to do so.
