Garment created from antique Indian wedding gown fragments, and contemporary Indian textiles ~ background of traditional Japanese mosquito net - richly embellished throughout with gold thread and beads. This piece is very richly adorned and sparkles beautifully in the light. Also displays well with the 'Koto' art piece as they are of similar image size and colouring.

The antique Indian wedding gown fragments used throughout this piece were hand-stitched by Rajasthani village woman...they were purchased from a gallery in Jaisalmer Rajasthan at the start of a one year around the world trip. I was so excited at the prospect of creating an artwork with them, and during that year they were pulled in and out of my backpack many a time to be admired. I love to think about all the hands that have touched them as they made their way into my artwork:)

Technique....
All materials and embellishments have been meticulously adhered to watercolour paper using acid free adhesives. The result is a flat textural artwork similar in appearance to a painting, while exhibiting the unique and exquisite qualities that can only be found in textiles!

The metallic and coloured threads have been painstakingly glued using dental instruments. This is a technique I developed in the early days of experimentation to add beauty and sparkle to the work (this is a little difficult to capture in a photo).

All works are individually named and signed including a small 'R' logo of metallic / black thread in the main image.
